Siwerniak (Anthus spinoletta) 2023 grudzien stawy Doljlidzkie

4 XII odwiedziliśmy stawy Dojlidzkie z Oliwier Myka w poszukiwaniu SIWERNIAKA (Anthus spinoletta) wykrytego przez Robert Sobolewski. Rano widział już go Grzesiek Grygoruk więc poszukiwania zawęziliśmy do stawu III. Okazało się że siedział wraz z rudzikiem na dziczych "buchtowiskach" przy grobli a spłoszony odleciał na podobne zryte i zmrożone błotko ale w pasie trzcin. Tam widac go było od czasu do czasu między łodygami. Generalnie dość płochliwy ptaszek i bardzo podobny na pierwszy rzut oka do świergotka łąkowego. Wg moich wyliczeń na Podlasiu to czwarta obserwacja. Ptak w Polsce nie jest rzadki ale u nas to już inna bajka 🙂

Sardinian Warbler | Pokrzewka aksamitna | Curruca melanocephala - fourth for Poland!

Sunday afternoon brought electrizing message on WhatsApp- SARDINIAN WARBLER in the centre of Warsaw! Difficult bird recorded so far just trapped or seen briefly.

The bird showed up near subway station in one of the most busy places in Polish capitol. Thousands of people rushing from dawn till dusk, cars, trams and an island of bushes surrounded by offices and skyscrapers. A site called "pan" - typical "lighthouse effect" place

After three hours spent in delayed train and two more of waiting by the bushes THE WARBLER appeared for brief moments. That was enough to see it well without binoculars (some 2 m distance) and take poor shots with Canon. Enough to make me happy !

Interestingly - other birds included a Blackcap, Barred Warbler, Whitethroat. Real bird hotspot in the middle of the city

2023 Autumn

24.09.2023 Siemianowka - muddy shores become more attractive to waders - >40 Dunlin, Sanderling, Grey Plovers.

17.09.2023 - Siemianowka Lake stays a reliable hotspot  - Belarussian Greater Spotted Eagles hunting in Eastern part of the Lake. Ebird Hotspot

 

Warm August extended into Septemeber. My Regional List of Podlaskie with new species added (#293). Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea) twitched in Narewka by the bridge. Bird waited for me till the end of my seaside holiday. It is still unusual in Podlaskie and much more common in south and north of Poland

Biegus ostrosterny (Calidris acuminata) - jedynka dla Polski!

 Poranek zapowiadał się przeciętnie - kolejny upalny sierpniowy dzień. Ale w komórce już czekała rewelacyjna informacja, zaledwie rzut kamieniem od Podlasia, koło Olecka pojawił się pierwszy w Polsce BIEGUS OSTROSTERNY (Calidris acuminata)

Ptaka wykrył Robert Locman wieczorem 3 VIII a już o świcie 4 VIII odnaleźli go ponownie obserwatorzy, którzy w nocy dotarli na Mazury

Po szybkim śniadaniu stwierdziłem że trzeba korzystać z okazji i ruszyłem w trasę. W międyczasie wieści nie były najlepsze. Ok 6.40 ptak zerwał się do lotu i nie widziano go później. Dotarłem na miejsce ok 11 i wraz z kilkunastoma obserwatorami zaleglem na skarpie w oczekiwaniu na biegusa. Krótkie rekonesanse wokół jeziora nic nie wniosły. Ptaka nie ma!

Anka Włodarczak - Komosińska stwierdziła że jedzie szukać na żwirowni pod Suwałkami gdzie warunki na siewki są dobre. Byliśmy tam tydzień temu z Oliwierem Myka i Jarkiem STepaniukiem - teren nadawał sie na pewno na siewki. Tylko czy biegus poleciał akurat tam a nie do Holandii jak stwierdził Łukasz Matyjasiak? 

Po godzinie dostajemy elektryzującą wiadomość od Anki - jest! Przyjeżdżajcie! Wszyscy wskoczyli w auta i w drogę - tylko 30 km ale czy nadal będzie??

Na miejscu okazało się że BIEGUS siedzi! Wykrył go Robert WYsocki wspólnie z Anką. Niesamowity fart i wyczucie!

Biegus widocznie podążył z innymi ptakami na lepsze miejsce i teraz wszyscy mogliśmy go podziwiać w lunetach z wysokiej skarpy

Ptak żerował wzdłuż linii brzegowej w niskiej roślinności i był dobrze widoczny. Na dobre zdjęcia jednak trudno było liczyć ze względu na odległość i dość silny wiatr. W lunecie dobrze było widać brązowy berecik, mocno łuskowany grzbiet, dość długie nogi i wydłużony tył ciała. Sporo większy od biegusa zmiennego, zbliżony pokrojem i rozmiarem do łęczaków, ale w brązowej tonacji

Kolejni obserwatorzy docierali i ptak od czasu do czasu zapadał w drzemkę

Poświęciłem na obserwacje dobre kilka godzin i ok 17 na żwirowni Kuków pożegnałem się z Czesławem Lichotą.

Obserwacja świetna, mimo początkowej niepewności i dość dużego dystansu do ptaka.

Summer 2023 Raptors

Low season for shorebirds and more quiet forest. My visit to meadows near Wizna produced 5 Lesser Spotted Eagles including two on one branch. Expected other Eagle didnt arrive.

Beginning of July with nice record of Short-toed Eagle that came hunting after 5 hours of observations. Meadows near Kapice (Biebrza Marshes) also with Lesser and Greater Spotted Eagles. The Short-toed Eagle later discovered breeding by my friends but the chick found dead under the nest.

June 2023 - Siemianowka, Rabinowka, Pienki

 Late spring blends slowly into summer and Citrine Wagtails at Siemianowka Lake collect food for their chicks. We had 2 or 3 pairs in one small spot near Cisowka pump station. Also waders like Redshank, Black-tailed Godwit seem to have good season in nieghbourhood - Siemianowka and Pienki.

Lesser Spotted Eagles hunt over meadows and follow working machines in search of easier prey

Late May local birding 2023

 New species added to my Backyard List in Ostrówek - Bee-eater. One bird heard and seen on 26th of May. Rachowik Pool drying due to lack of rain. Honey Buzzard and Common Terns recorded on 28th of May

Spring 2023 birding

 My local countryside pool produced several nice species this spring due to good water conditions. Located in mostly agricultural landscape it attracts Ducks, Cranes, Waders. Last year I spotted here Great Snipe, Black Kite. This spring - Temminck Stint, Little Stint, Shovelers, Garganeys.

Early spring it was a roosting site for hundreds od migrating Geese

2023 04 Lithuania and Sandhill Crane

 

Sandhill Crane/Antigone canadensis/Zuraw kanadyjski.

News showed up at Tarsiger on 7th April right after we arrived to Druskininkai with family. I would probably ignore it being in Poland but this looked like real coincidence. Just one hour drive. Early start on 8th April  produced lucky find right at sunrise. The Crane appeared in a small flock European Cranes by the road near Ziuronys. The bird looked weird and tiny - like a "baby Crane". Feeding with other birds in a field gave really good views from a car. Birds where the flushed by White-tailed Eagle so I got out to stretch my bones and get some fresh morning air. And a cup of coffee with Pupa 🙂 Well deserved! Thanks Antanas Petraska and Marius Karlonas for your tips!

2023 03 March

 Water levels after winter very high. Geese arrived early not feared of snowfals coming from time to time. Tundra Bean Goose followed by White-fronts which by 16h of March are 95% of wild geese here. Single Red Kite visited Biebrza Valley on 17th (rare, non-breeding here).

2023 Morocco

Morocco was my target for several years. The planning took some months, the crew was completed in final days before departure (me, Jarek Banach and Jurek Grzybek).

The country has various habitats so despite our timing (end of winter) we expected some nice observations

31st of Jan - Marrakech > Oukmaiden

Stop "en route" near Aurocher Oukaimeden with several passerines in sparse village buidlings and groves. Steep hills/mountains around.

January 2023

My yearlist reached 56 in January - compared to 130 of a leader not much but gives me enough satisfaction.

White-billed Diver discovered by Wojtek Lapinski remaining at lake near Elk 11-24 Jan.

Mild winter attracted several birds to come earlier to the marshes - Cranes and Greylag Geese accompanied by Barnacle and Pink-footed. I expect some cold weather in February anyway.

Unusual wintering Scaup in Wasilkow resevoir remaining for several days. Bisons as usual present near Krynki - at least 100.
